Telangana literally means southern land, not land of the three lingas. This is a later myth.

If the three linga story was true then Telugu wouldn’t be called Telugu as both Telangana and Telugu come from the same word Telungu.

    2. Andhra is name of tribe from ancient times. It doesn’t mean southern people. OP, this map is wrong..

I wonder what it would be like to see something like this for the American states. The majority of Americans just accept the names and have no idea of the etymological origin, myself included.

    4. This stupid map again.

Bihar comes from the Sanskrit vihāra, not „Abode of Buddha“

Maharashtra is the great *state*, not nation. Rashtra is a state, comes from the root rāj- „to rule“.

There is no agreed upon etymology for Andhra Pradesh.

The three lingas for Telangana is a very controversial etymology.

      Etc.

Can we just stop posting India In Pixels stuff?

    5. „The land of the cows“ where, ironically, it is most likely that you will eat the most beef in all of india.

The Dawn-lit Mountains sounds like something out of the Wheel of Time.
