of all “social media” sites, Reddit is the main one anyone under 16 should not be on

Just wait till Canada’s kicks in. We didn’t just target social media, it’s the whole internet

Its not just a social media ban. It’s an ID law.

Australians have to upload their ID to social media to get access.

      That said.

Keeping kids off social media isn’t really realistic, they’ll find a way to get on it.

The best that can be done is reducing their presence/exposure.

      Namely by

-Not giving smartphones to kids (a job for parents)

-Not letting students have smartphones in school

    4. How about start cracking down on bots and get rid of the paid poster bullshit thing that enables it instead?

Why do they care about losing users when so much of the site is karma farming ChatGPT profiles constantly running the numbers up anyway

    6. The billionaire owner of Reddit is butt hurt that there are now Australian children he cannot exploit, and radicalise, for profit.

He doesn’t actually care about Australia, or the rights of Australian children.

He is worried that if this works, Europe will follow, and that will really hurt his wallet.

    7. If you are an Australian against this vote for someone who is against the ban like the greens party

The law prohibits having an account not looking at the site. Kids in Australia can still find anything they want on Reddit that isn’t locked to verified users. I think Reddit is just salty that it has to try to verify users rather than letting in all the bots and alt accounts.

    9. Zero chance don’t waste your time. And yes there is lots of questionable content on reddit.

With all the bans and censorship in so many places, I’m honestly surprised it’s taken this long for someone to sue over it.
