    1. Great news. Was odd to see some Republicans not fold to Trump especially with the very direct threats.

      > But even after the state House approved the new map last week, it failed in the state Senate by a vote of 31-19.

Wow, Trump’s gerrymandering push in Indiana wasn’t just defeated, it was rejected by a landslide even though the Indiana Senate has a GOP supermajority. I never expect Republicans to do the right thing so I’m actually pretty surprised by this.

    3. Ok-Lets-Talk-It-Out on

The fact these people actually represented their constituents is going to enrage Trump.

    4. I love the fuck you to Trump the most, but even if it had passed I don’t think redistricting is going to be the buoy against voter anger that Republicans hope it will. Many of those redrawn districts are going to end up getting pushed over & flipped if they drew themselves more “lean red” districts but have to defend thinner margins because the voters got spread out.

    5. Respect to the GOP Senators showing principle on this occasion. With how unhinged Trump’s rhetoric has been it’s almost certainly a bit nervewracking.

Maybe constantly swatting members of your own party was not the best strategy there dipshits

    7. Looks like Republicans might finally be realizing Trump won’t be on a ballot again and he is now a pretty big political liability because non cult members fucking hate what he is doing to the country.

    8. Ketchup is going to fly. Guarantee this is both unexpected and unwelcome news for the glorious dictator.

    9. Good day to be a Hoosier.

And this vote happened after Trump declared the state will lose all funding and after most of our representatives faced death threats, swatting, bomb threats and watched their children and businesses targeted.

Today we are the Holding Hoosiers.

I hate this diaper-filling idiot, so knowing he’ll be screeching and slinging ketchup on the walls at 3 am is so satisfying to me. I’m sure this was largely motivated by Republican self-interest, but it’s good to see something RESEMBLING a spine anyways.

    11. Now Republicans are free to run on the A+++++ economy and the affordability hoax. Just buy fewer pencils, guys.

    12. Somewhere there is a janitor specializing in ketchup stain removal who is hugging his wife and kids telling them he may not be home for a while.

    13. Republicans getting massive credit for acting somewhat reasonable is the cherry on top of everything.

    14. The quicker the GOP realizes he’s a lame duck, the midterms are already lost and he’s not worth protecting the better

    15. As someone from Indiana who watched the Indiana Senate talk about this, a few factors stood out:

      1) the proposed map drew lines to split populated areas, which made little sense from a real-world implications standpoint. Having mid-sized cities be split in half makes for some confusing policy decisions within a city.

      2) Indianapolis was split into 4 districts and combined with rural parts of the state, and rural Republicans didn’t want to share their district with Indianapolis.

      3) There were legitimate legal questions as to if the redistricting violated the Indiana constitution. Indiana taxpayers would’ve been funding lawsuits at the very least, and the maps might’ve been struck down eventually by the Indiana Supreme Court.

    16. Hoosier here. I watched the whole thing at my desk. Give these Republicans credit. Some of their speeches were almost inspiring. Indiana has a history of voting person over party (Like going Obama in 2008). Maybe threatening people doesn’t work in some parts of the country.

Despite Trump earlier today threatening to cut off all federal funding to Indiana if they refused to go along with his gerrymander idea.

    18. LingonberryHot8521 on

Well, Trump promised to campaign against them if they voted no and they have seen the recent elections so…

    19. PropofolMargarita on

Republicans actually stood up to Trump.

Makes congressional republicans look weak as shit

    20. FalstaffsGhost on

Yeah, cause they saw the results of the elections in November and realize that by spreading themselves that thin they can get fucked over in a wave election

    21. The citizens of Indiana still have several hundred of our national guard stationed in Washington DC.
I think our governor should recall them due to the ongoing threats to our lawmakers. If our politicians are being threatened, maybe we should keep them here.

As a Hoosier, I think this is the first time in my 40 plus years I’ve ever been proud of my Republican representatives. The bar is so low, but thank you guys all the same I’m impressed.

    23. oldschoolnintendo92 on

Good. Seems like these state senators are finally being scared more by their electorate than Trump’s typical temper tantrum. It’s a good first step.

    24. LomentMomentum on

The only way to great an even greater GOP majority would be to add tens of thousands of blue Indianapolis voters to current red districts, thus making some of them less safe. It’s already clear 2026 will be a bad year for the Republicans, and I think some of the senate no votes began to question why they would make their lives even more difficult for someone who isn’t going to be on the ballot anymore.

    25. Redditors keep calling me stupid for saying it but the GOP is rebelling against Trump. They’re so tired of him having them by the balls and now he’s unpopular enough for the GOP to buck him if they’re careful.

But the “literal neo nazi” wing of the party seems to be more likely to come out on top than the “establishment neocon” wing of the party…
