Uns wurde gesagt, dass zwei Löhne ein größeres Haus, bessere Ferien, eine vorzeitige Pensionierung und ein gutes Leben bedeuten würden. Wie hat das geklappt?
Die meisten Paare, die ich kenne, arbeiten beide Vollzeit, haben ein angemessenes Gehalt und leben immer noch von Gehaltsscheck zu Gehaltsscheck. Grundsätzlich wird der gesamte Lohn für Kinderbetreuung oder Miete aufgewendet. Sparen ist ein Witz. Ein einfacher Familienurlaub fühlt sich mittlerweile wie ein Luxus an. Folgendes geschah tatsächlich: In dem Moment, als die Haushalte begannen, insgesamt mehr zu verdienen, erhöhte das System einfach die Preise entsprechend.
Die Immobilienpreise blieben nicht gleich, sodass die Menschen weiterkommen konnten. Sie schossen in die Höhe, weil die Kreditgeber wussten, dass zwei Einkommen garantiert waren.
Kinderbetreuung blieb nicht bezahlbar; es stieg auf 1.500–2.000 pro Monat, weil es plötzlich jeder zahlen „konnte“.
Energierechnungen, Versicherungen, Lebensmitteleinkäufe, Gemeindesteuer; Alles passt sich still und heimlich nach oben an, wenn das Einkommen der zweiten Familie steigt.
Sie verdienen mehr, die Kosten steigen, um Ihnen gerecht zu werden. Du kommst nie voran; Du rennst einfach schneller, um still zu stehen.
Mit dem zweiten Einkommen konnte ich mir kein besseres Leben erkaufen. Es wurde zum neuen Mindestlohn, das gleiche Leben zu führen, das Ihre Eltern mit einem Gehalt hatten.
Jetzt kann niemand einen schlechten Job kündigen, niemand kann streiken, niemand kann sich frei nehmen, wenn ein Kind oder ein Elternteil krank ist; weil ein Gehaltsscheck verpasst wurde und die Rechnungen nicht bezahlt werden.
Banken, Vermietern und großen Unternehmen ging es noch nie so gut.
Compliance durch Abhängigkeit ist die Devise.

These things happened because capitalism got more efficient, not because of dual incomes. They were inevitable as information became more available and more rapid, and as greed became more culturally acceptable.

When you’re in the bank signing up for the mortgage, what you’re really doing is signing up to lick the boss’s ass every time he spits at you.
More and more, that bound situation is heading towards for lifetime, lifetime mortgages.
I don’t know if it’s happening in the US, in the UK the age you’re allowed to retire keeps getting pushed older and older – because the government is incompetent and can’t manage to stop the economy sliding into more and more debt.
While lifespans are still increasing, illness and disability have both shot through the roof, so it’s going to be more unlikely that many people will be able to keep working into their seventies.
Once I got up to $25+ an hour, I never noticed $1 raises on my checks. I’m at $33 an hour now and haven’t taken home $100 more than when I made $28 an hour.

Elizabeth Warren wrote a book about this in 2003 called „The Two Income Trap.“
I didn’t believe her at the time. I guess the joke is on me.
If two adults are combing incomes while making a “decent” wage and are living paycheck to paycheck, they need financial guidance. You don’t need the biggest house, the nicest car or the newest phone.
We are on an unsustainable path that can eventually lead to guillotines once enough people are desperate enough.
What good will be wealth when the sick and starving are looting your home? These people don’t get it, there’s nowhere to hide.
I come across empty homes all over the place with „for rent“ signs. What could be housing for a young family is a commodity for some boomer who lives out of town. That rent won’t go towards the local economy. Sometimes I wonder if the socialist got some things right, cuz this isn’t working.
The 2 incomes started with the feminist movement. Women wanted to go to work and earn money like a man instead of staying home watching kids, cleaning house and cooking.
Once they firmly inserted themselves into the workforce it wasn’t long before new technology became wide spread. Like cable tv for a monthly cost vs free antenna. Taxes were also much less. Food became package for faster easy meal prep at a high cost. It was the little thing that added up to needing 2 incomes.
I’ve seen several things on this over the years. The theory was always that we had hit the limit of economic growth due to the available workforce. This required action to bring back stay at home mums back into work. Bring on equality and a push for women to get back to work.
The result was households with two incomes that then led to a massive increase in house prices (at least here in the UK) as families had higher incomes and could borrow more.
You can take this further and say that when they had milked this one they then began the diversity push trying to push for groups that had higher unemployment. Add to that as we reach the limits there untapped migration.
Ultimately all about economic growth above all else but framed in a way that people believe it is being done in the name of fareness and for them.
Wage slavery FOR EVERYBODY

Not to mention how it affevts the household with both parents gone for 9+ hours a day. It’s much better for everyone to have one parent at home
The more we earn the more we need!
But my logic is this. Why work 50+ hours, chasing a wage increase to pay more tax and pay for a big house that you never see or enjoy! Onto of that never seeing your partner who has to work as hard. To pay someone to raise the kids you had together.
Hard work is justified with the nice house, nice car and nice holidays. But thats not living, we only get one shot.
We fell for a lot of shit and still falling, rock bottom is gonna be wild to see
We live in a capitalist system where shareholders require larger and larger returns and paying workers more is fought tooth and nail. It’s a natural outcome.
We are a happy one income household. We are not rich, or even high middle class by most means, but our son gets quality education vetted from mom & I, my wife gets to live her dream and what she was put on this earth to do, and I come home to a happy household.
The real psyop is that millions of women have been gaslit into thinking their “career” as an HR benefits worker is more important than spending time with their own children and raising the next generation.
If you saw your parents struggle then you knew it would only get worse and was a joke. More you make the more you spend in this world
Blackrock and Vanguard players rigged everything by buying all the real estate during the pandemic. They are still doing it- now they are evicting the poor from mobile homes, stealing their right to live with a roof over their heads.
I still think it works, my wife’s salary (school teacher – $60k) is only for vacations/ home improvements/ emergencies. Sounds more like people are opting to live above their means.
Not only that, but by pushing for two income households, there’s less time for parents to evaluate what kids are learning in schools so whatever propaganda they want to push, they do. Same goes for social media and parents being too busy at home so kids are kept entertained with low-effort mindrot that shortens attention spans and discourages critical thinking.
Now they’re pushing it even further with AI being more available so people are forming more emotional attachments with AI over other people

They’ll be interviewing some executive who says things like „margin expansion“ or „pricing power“ or „we have a strong moat“ or „a subscription revenue model.“
What all this jargon means is that they have the power and expertise to squeeze you and take every extra cent you earn.
They know they’ll get away with it. They keep you distracted with trans athletes and furries and whatever other bullshit they know you’ll fall for. Frankly, at this point you fucking deserve it. This is what you vote for every fucking time. „I dIdN’t LiKe HeR LaUgH, hur dur!! WoRd SaLaD, hur dur!!“
