Takaichi ranking third is a reminder of how central Japan has become to global stability. Not because of symbolism; but because her decisions directly shape the balance of power in East Asia, the resilience of democratic alliances, and the security of the semiconductor supply chain the world runs on.

A Japanese PM landing alongside von der Leyen and Lagarde, signals that Tokyo is now viewed as a core pillar of the international rules-based order; on par with the EU’s most influential leaders.

It also undercuts Beijing’s false narrative that Japan is isolated, irrelevant, or “subservient.” Global institutions and markets clearly see the opposite.

Japan’s leadership matters, its choices carry weight, and its voice is increasingly central in countering authoritarian coercion. Particularly that of the CCP.
