This reminds me of a story I heard the head of Rolls Royce PR tell eons ago. Apparently some Australian couple bought a Phantom, rigged it up with a bunch of extra gas cans, and fully sent it all the way across the Outback just for fun.
Seeing the scale of the Outback makes that story a lot more impressive.

So how does putting it up against a country you don’t live in, give it perspective?
Nothing about this post makes sense.

This is why Perth makes no sense to me as a person from the US. Perth is like if the US were only populated on the East Coast and then Los Angeles was out there doing its own thing.

You live in Australia and better understand its size having compared it to the US?

I’m from the US and have traveled the whole country, when I saw how big Australia was compared to the US the first, it blew my mind too. Really puts Russia into perspective as well.

The reason you thought that is because of how uninhabitable most of it is.

Friendly reminder that Australia and New Zealand combined are smaller than Brazil by both area and population

Tasmania is way far from the mainland. And it explains why it has such a unique ecosystem.

That’s why they call it a continent.

California has a bigger population and we’re mostly just our coast.

I mean, the journey Nemo took was at least from DC to Miami, and could have been twice as long depending on which part of the Great Barrier Reef he lived on

Australia is HUGE!!! I remember when my family was planning to go there and I wanted to go to Uluru. We were going to be in Sydney and Brisbane, my dad pointed out it would be like us living in LA area going to Kansas.

Australia is a bit smaller than I was expecting, so interesting overlay.

This makes that movie about the serial killer in the Australian outback way more fucking terrifying. Even if they escaped they never would’ve made it back to civilization.
