I still don’t understand why Canada is not changing the Travel Advisory risk to the US for at least YELLOW (i.e. „Exercise a high degree of caution“).
I mean, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, even United Kingdom are all in YELLOW for ffs!!!
I feel much safer to travel to any of the countries above than in US-stan where you are actually much more surveilled than even if you go to China! (I know, I’ve been to China recently and my phone was never touched nor nobody ever asked me stupid questions about what I thought of the President).

Wait… I thought this was a satire. So in other news…. people are gonna uninstall and install apps frequently while crossing border

If you read the actual document from the US CBP, it specifies that this would apply to ESTA applicants. Canadians are exempt (for now), so we do not need a visa of any kind to visit the US. This wouldn’t officially apply to us.
Now don’t get me wrong, this is appalling overreach, but I think they probably understand that getting this information from 100k+ travelers crossing from Canada every day is infeasible.

Small government conservatism in action yet again, folks.
Is there any political ideology that is as dead as small government conservatism? We have all these zombie parties with “conservative” in the name or that profess to believe in small government conservatism, but in practice the last federal administration in Canada/US that has an argument for following that ideology is the Chrétien government. Conservative parties don’t even pretend anymore.

To be clear: Canadian citizens don’t need to do an ESTA so do not need to do this. But basically anyone who isn’t a Canadian or American citizen would.

How would that even work? How does one prepare and present 5 years worth of social media activity? Would I need to export my facebook and twitter posts to a word doc and present them to the immigration officer? I feel sorry for the person forced to read through all my hot takes over the years.
