Some additional context: this tanker is currently not registered anywhere. The Gambian flag it displayed when passing through the Turkish straits was registered till October 1, 2025. Before that, the tanker had a Comoros flag till May 01, 2025. The tanker was sailing in ballast to the Russian port of Novorossiysk and was legally within Ukraine’s economic zone at the moment of the attack.
