It really is shocking when you put it down like this. We are so desensitised to how much damage it does and just think, yeh, but it won’t affect us. It is affecting us, just not as much as it affects other countries first.

  2. The unfortunate part is how the current global political climate leans heavily against environmental efforts. We were previously able to make changes to fix the ozone layer but back then there were more people sympathetic to these things. The importance of the environment for our daily lives is incredibly understated as is. There is the possibility of wars with billions of deaths depending on environmental circumstances but it does remain difficult to fathom the scale of things.

If we stopped producing food and fossil fuels for a few years all these problems would resolve themselves 🙂

  4. This sounds like something that would be said to try and turn people into defeatists.

  5. If you’re thinking: „$5b / hr to **who**?“
The cost of polluting is imagined as what it would cost to repair, avoid or compensate for the harm done.

  6. Livestock in the form of modern farming is one of the most environmentally destructive practices we have

  7. Yeah, but you’re looking at it wrong.

How much bn/hour is it generating as profit?

  8. It’s disheartening that even environmental damage has to be measured in money to be heard

Really? $42,600,000,000,000/year? Global GDP is ~ $111,250,000,000,000. So over 38%. I find this hard to believe.
