      I’m thankful that people in my country are some combination of too prideful and arrogant to ever allow us to be in a position where we are dependent on another country to „secure“ our elections.

      Is there any word on likely candidates?

      I imagine the logistics of an organising an election with part of your territory under occupation, a hostile power looking to interfere and a sizeable chunk of your population overseas will be fairly onerous. Best of luck to them, assuming they get the required guarantees.

      Logistically, how do you hold an election? With the territories that are in the battlefields or illegally under Russian control, does that mean those Ukrainian citizens can’t vote? Also, how do you protect voting sites from being targeted by Russia to scare off people from actually voting?

      Why though? It’s in the Ukrainian Constitution to suspend elections in a time of war.

      The Ukrainian constitution stipulates that they withhold elections at times of war. This was in effect before Zelenskyy was elected.

      This US demand that Ukraine hold an election in the midst of an ongoing war is ridiculous and should be considered a “poison pill” out of hand. It’s an illustration that Trump is not negotiating in good faith.

      Anyone urging him to hold elections during the war is pushing Russian interests first and foremost. Modern elections can’t even fight back foreign interference under normal circumstances.
