More and more I’m convinced that if Canadian democracy is destroyed, it’ll happen via the Notwithstanding Clause. I don’t care how much of a pain in the ass it’ll be to get rid of, it *needs* to go.

The most important issues in Alberta’s History, so important the government had to invoke a clause that over rides the Zcharter four times, and it all has to do with crushing basic human rights.
Not the massive deficit, not the huge giveaways to corporations, not the massive number of orphan wells timebomb waiting to destroy groundwater and pollute the province but human rights violations they can’t defend in court.
Alberta is lost, morally and fiscally. Corporations own your government and are using it to divide you while they divide the massive wealth geography gave you.

Tell me you don’t care about democracy without telling me.
I don’t fully understand why the NWC was added in the first place, but I think that at a MINIMUM the Constitution needs to be amended so it is CANNOT be used preamptively. I think that removing the NWC entirely would need the approval of all provinces (which of course would never happen since they are the ones to use it with complete disregard for human rights and for the country we live in), but I am not so sure that a „simple“ (yes, I know, not simple at all!) amendment could be done through our legal system without requiring an absolute agreement by everyone (since that is exactly the problem, some people are using it to bypass Canadians‘ human rights which is the problem to solve, hence you don’t ask those creating the problem if they would like the problem to be solved).
People might complain all they want about Canada (I know, it’s far from perfect!), but those complaining the most are actually the source of all their own problems. It is true for Alberta, but also for Quebec and any other governments trying to distort our legal system for their own self-service and short-sighted purposes.
TL;DR: Make the NWC impossible to use preamptively.

I think Smith is trying to bait the government to use disallowance, because it that happens Québec will leave in record Times and Canada will collapse.

While voting for a bill that denies kids care. Top and bottom surgery isn’t really a thing for minors, but puberty blockers are, and those make it easier for trans kids to medically transition. They also don’t cause any harm if the child decides that they want to continue with their normal puberty. Banning them, makes transitioning harder for trans kids, makes it less likely they’ll pass as adults, and increases trans suicide rates.

That’s pretty much all medical treatment, yet for some reason, they only want to „protect“ trans kids.

That’s already standard medical practice, so you are actually doing the opposite of what you say you want to do. That’s pretty common for Marlaina though.
