However, a new survey reveals that Teslas may not be the most reliable vehicles on the market and might fall short in terms of overall ownership experience.

      According to Consumer Reports‘ 2025 used vehicle reliability study, Tesla is the most unreliable used car brand in the US. It placed last among 26 automotive brands with a reliability ranking of 31 – below Jeep (32), Ram (35), and Chrysler (36). The study evaluated the reliability of 5- to 10-year-old models on the second-hand market.

      What’s this coming from? I’ve been in Tesla owners groups researching the cars for a year now. Have consistently seen quite a few long term owners with 150-200k miles on the odometer share their experiences and it’s almost always positive. Barely any maintenance especially comparing an ice car at that mileage, and still nice customer service and of course, great performance and about 12% max degredation. 

      Just more FUD I guess to fuel the legacy autos. Oh well!

      Have you ever driven a brand new Chrysler? The thing can barely get off the lot.

      They include things like squeaks and noises as „faults“, and are strangely opaque about scoring.

      Also, it seems anyone can submit „data“ without scrutiny.

      I find it hard to believe, overall (not just because of Tesla, but many others in that list having the positions they do, Vs industry reputation and data…)

      This consumer reports study has its place but there is also an interesting counter to this.

      The JD power 2025 used car reliability study

      The JD Power looks at 3 year old cars. Sold in 2022. not the 5-10 year old range CR studied.

      The bottom of the JD powers list where Volkswagen, Chrysler, Jeep and Audi. Similar to CR’s ranking,

      Tesla on the other hand was one place below Ford when it comes to reliability and 20+ places above Jeep and Chrysler.

      This is showing the quality of jeep and Chrysler remained consistently over 10 years while Tesla improved greatly.

      According to Elon, Tesla ain’t a car company anymore though, so it shouldn’t matter that cars are becoming unreliable

      It’s really funny how many people in this thread are trying to claim that *Consumer Reports* is some no-name grifter. Really says a lot.

      Actually reliability aside, the biggest problem with Teslas is that they make you engage in a cult-like ritual to get anything fixed. Nobody else can fix *anything* in a Tesla besides Tesla themselves, and every now and then they get yelled at by lawmakers over this. You also have to use their stupid app for everything, and you have to register that car to you through that app.

      The nightmare that is the Cybertruck is the disgusting icing on this trash cake.

      These biased reports are using 13 yr old stats from the original S and 3. Ask Uber drivers what they think is the most reliable vehicle.

      I guess that can be true, though my 2018 Model 3 (one of the early ones) has 150,000 miles and had 1 minor issue (bushings on lower control arms) that cost about $200 to replace, and a $70 underbody shield that needed replaced. That’s it, which compared to all my gas cars of the past is basically no maintenance or repairs.

      Wow being worse than a Stellantis product is one hell of an accomplishment.

      As a Tesla owner I uh….yeah I got nothing. I wouldn’t buy a used one either.
