When she took on the expanded trade role back in June I have heard she said she didn’t want to stay in the position for a long time.
I don’t know how often she had to deal with Pete Hoekstra but I suspect just once is enough for anyone to want to quit that position lol
In all seriousness I wonder who will get the spot going forward especially at such an important time.

Can we appoint an American hating ambassador that goes on anti Trump and anti USA rants on social media every hour on the hour and at random public events? We need to keep up with Hoekstra!
The next appointment will possibly be the most consequential diplomatic appointment in Canadian history. I hope the candidate will match the gravity of the situation.
That must have been a terrible job. I honestly feel bad for anyone having to do that job in these times with THAT administration, just brutal.
She’s one of very few career public servants to be appointed in this role and also the third longest-serving in recent memory, after Doer and Gotlieb. That’s plenty impressive and I can totally understand why she wouldn’t want to commit to another round of negotiations. No idea what her next plans are I have huge respect.
She was in a very difficult position. Pretty sure it has to be a man to please Trump, the bro club in the White House doesn’t want a strong woman who will stand up to their whims. We all know what they thought of Chrystia Freeland. Carney’s inner circle also seems like a bit of boys club, which is even more disappointing.
