I’m a republican so I’m sympathetic to the idea.
However, once again she seems to be demonstrating her complete lack of strategic political thinking. The party currently has very little image in the public other than chaos and in fighting. It’s so important that it becomes associated with popular policy positions. The last thing they need is for ‚referendum on the Monarchy‘ to become seen as a major part of the party’s image.

It doesn’t really matter if Sultana is right; the public don’t agree. They are happy with the current setup, or at least aren’t that bothered with it.
And this is despite the hit their reputation has taken thanks to ~~Prince~~ Andrew, and the fact that Chuck isn’t as popular as Lizzie was.
Ah watching her demise is amusing. Mind no doubt she’s going slow on that £800k so she can pocket the interest, and she also said she will keep some for „costs“ I note. So I’m sure she’ll take nice wad of cash before she’s cast out of the political system.
As much as we should, there’s just no point. There are far more people who actively want them than actively don’t but both groups are eclipsed by the ‚I don’t care, they are fine I guess?‘ demographic.
One common thing I’ve noticed amongst a fair chunk of the anti-monarchists is they have never dealt with them and have scant idea of what they actually do.
It’s very much an „eat the rich“ mob mentality because what they do hasn’t directly affected them is therefore pointless.
I’d rather a monarchy with liberty than the kind of “democratic” totalitarian society Sultana wants.
I’d rather we spent the time and money on infrastructure.
I’m not entirely convinced she would have been happy with a President Boris or Thatcher or Blair etc etc but hey if thats one of her core principles then good luck to her.
There’s other things to be concerned about right now.
Sultana & Corbyn, the „Fruit & Nut“ party?
Aside from anything, a politician „demanding“ anything shows how little she knows about the Parliamentary system in the UK.
The ONLY public position that she should have on this topic is „there are far more important things to concern ourselves with at the moment“.
Everyone is watching and waiting for Your Party to rip itself apart on some fringe position that the average person doesn’t think about one bit. Great to see her getting a head start.
When did we get a referendum on whether we wanted mass immigration into the UK. Did I miss it?

Her being kicked out of Labour has meant she’s free to host the Zarah Sultana show where she can spout teenage political ideologies. I’m opposed to a monarchy, in principle, but so long as the monarchy benefits the UK more than it doesn’t I don’t have a strong need to call for their abolishment other than “I don’t like kings and queens”. They’re symbolic, they do have some power (more than we’re led to believe, recent news stories revealed) but are otherwise not totally harmful and are economically advantageous.
I say that to say we have bigger issues in this country right now and, if she were smart, she wouldn’t waste her 15 minutes on abolishing the monarchy or nationalising the economy, but on pressing actual tangible issues that we have today. She’s arrogantly scoring so many own goals and making the left-wing look batshit insane and being smug while doing it. This country needs a competent left-wing arm, if not to win elections at least to balance the scales, so we don’t steer too hard to the right which we are at genuine risk of. She is totally failing to read the room, just like Corbyn did. We couldn’t get another Brexit referendum, Scotland can’t get another independence referendum, and frankly people are sick of elections and referendums. Should we really be talking about having one about the monarchy?
The monarchy is the status quo in Britain – it’s not perfect but we prefer it. The left wing is all about socialist perfection and will stand on their morality to such an extent that they always split into factions. She needs to be appealing to middle Britain if they want to be elected rather than indulging themselves.

I much prefer a Constitutional Monarchy such as we already have, as opposed to an elected head of state. As a lover of democracy, this may at first be an odd statement to read.
But our current system, in the whole, works fine, and the fact we have an impartial and non political head of state works wonders for us both at home and abroad. With a free press, there is still accountability and the royal family are not beyond reproach, as we have seen constantly over the past few decades and with the ongoing saga that the useless (putting it mildly) Prince Andrew brings.
Imagine having a populist left or right leader as our head of state, like Farage or Polanski. The very thought makes me shudder.

A completely pointless exercise that will do nothing to solve the problems facing this country.
But enough about ‚Your Party’…..
Seriously, there is no aspect of being a monarchy that stands in the way of solving the problems we face.
She’s actually awful at politics, it’s quite a skill to be this bad and still so sure of yourself.
I’m a republican in a sort of ambivalent way but I recognise there’s absolutely no chance a majority of people in the UK would vote to get rid of the monarchy. So holding a referendum would be a pointless waste of money that could better be spent supporting people in the ways an actual left wing party says they want to support people
Is this really a priority right now? It just smacks of the kind of rubbish you’d hear in some posh ideological seminar while people are struggling to get to put food on the table outside.

There are so many other important issues to focus on than this. Your Party is a joke.
