      what?? why did they do this?? I get that trees need pruning but they literally almost completely cut them down 🙁

      Never understood why Cyprus hates trees so much, it could be way better for everybody if there were trees

      It’s called pollarding. It encourages denser regrowth of branches. Cyprus municipalities like doing it because it is cheaper than regular pruning. however you end up with like 0 shade or any benefits of the trees for a few years (until they pollard them again).

      It’s a shit way of tree management for urban areas that are in dire need of shade.

      One thing Greek and Turkish Cypriots agree on is how much they both hate trees.
