    True.

A state that trades land for a promise of peace will soon run out of land, and peace.

  2. The right to self-defense and territorial integrity is enshrined in the UN Charter. You can’t „renounce“ what was taken from you by an illegal invasion. This is like asking a robbery victim to sign over the deed to their house to the thief.

This gets to a fundamental principle of international law and order. Post-WWII, the global consensus has been that borders cannot be changed by force. Allowing a nation to be forced to legally renounce territory seized by aggression would unravel that principle entirely, setting a dangerous precedent for the entire world.

Of course not. It should be the Russian who should renounce Crimea and return it back to Ukraine. 😛
