Aaaand there goes the election for Dems lol

Why fumble such a huge opportunity with Paxton looking likely to win the GOP nomination? Crockett just doesn’t stand a chance statewide, even against Paxton. Hopefully Talarico pulls it off anyway

Texan here: A black woman senator in this racist shithole? Absolutely no chance.

    3. I think she is great but there is no way she can win statewide in Texas, even in a blue tsunami. Talarico is the dems best hope, combined with Paxton winning the republican primary.

It looks like the last Democratic senator in Texas was Bob Krueger in 1993.

    5. God damn it. If she wins the primary, it’s going to make it that much harder for Dems to hold on in the new gerrymandered RGV districts. TX-35 probably ends up flipping if she’s the nominee.

I’d love her as my representative. Because she’s not going to sit on her thumbs. She will loudly and directly speak up for me. That should be what people Want in a representative.

I’ve heard a lot about Texas, but the world is a big place. Maybe she can win. I’d definitely encourage her to try.

Everyone’s bitching about who is more electable when in reality we all know the answer is that there are no democrats who are electable statewide.

I’m pro-Jasmine for this race, but I’m also not a Texan. I’m pro-Jasmine because I like her character and approach individually, even if she doesn’t hit the similar identity boxes of the median voter in Texas (which I think is a myopic view of what makes you representative of a group of people).

The thing I hate is people getting angry about people running because it interferes in the race when the primary process is for this exact purpose. Let Texas Dems choose who they want — do we want electoral choices or do we want select groups of Dems pre determining candidates?

This is a good thing. Contrary to popular opinion, dems need robust primaries.

Out of touch politician from a deep blue seat thinks her popularity online translates to statewide popularity

    10. As expected, she announced her candidacy. May the best candidate win in the primary. However, even in a +8 democratic environment, I just don’t see her winning in the general. Happy to be proven wrong but it’s Texas.

Talarico seems like a good candidate, uses his Christianity to call for economic justice and call out corruption. Is he perfect, no, but he’s actually quite a good bit removed from the status quo Democratic candidate offerings in a way that should still be electable in his state.

Let the democratic process play out. I think based on favorables for her and Talarico, she’s not getting past the primary.

She has shown herself to be a clout chaser. Effective at talking back but that’s why she should stay in the house. Talarico has a way better chance and the fact is they would both prob lose anyways

JT needs to be the nominee her for Dems to have a chance. I really like Crockett, and she has a future. If it were even a purple state I’d be pumped to have her. Texas is a different beast. JT is better suited for this race. I think she’s a much better candidate than Alred though.

    15. The problem with Democrats in TX is that they’re anti gun. You think Texas is gonna vote for someone who voted for the AWB in 2022, and other gun control measures?

Mind you. Cornyn is anti gun as well. It’s why Republicans are trying to primary him.

Love you, Jasmine, but holy fuck, this might be an impossible task.

      Prove me wrong though, please.

    17. TheMoorNextDoor on

I love Jasmine, I would love to see her in the senate but the issue here is Hispanics and White voters (that aren’t leftist or liberal) aren’t voting for her not in Texas.

The racism is too deeply rooted there.

She crushes her district as it’s primarily black.

Outside of that Texas isn’t going for it.

I’d rather see her aim to become speaker of the House once that waste basket of a minority speaker is ousted.

    18. LiberalSuperG on

She’s testing how deep the water is, there’s gotta be some numbers behind how many disenfranchised voters are potentially in that area

Allred is the pound for pound worst name for a Democratic candidate I’ve ever seen.

Ngl im a little confused by the response here.

I’m not sure how many of you have been paying attention but moderate republicans and democrats are being called woke Marxist’s by the MAGA folks now. Does it really matter if it’s Allred or Crockett? I don’t even think they need to change the ads they are running. No matter who ran with a D next to their name, they are now by default Bernie to the right.

I am glad to see Jasmine run, she is an actual fighter, something we need, and I thought Reddit agreed with this sentiment until she actually runs, now it’s we should have ran a moderate?

    21. Yeah, this isn’t happening. Texas is all we have to know, why she won’t.

    22. Why is she leaving the house when she’s the most effective firebrand they have? James Talirico moving onto the national stage in the senate while Crockett continues to gain power and clout in the house would be ideal. Her sights should be set on Hakeem Jeffries.

Talirico is progressive as hell but delivers his message in a way that could attract rural voters. Crockett is my favorite politician in the house but doesn’t check that box at all. Her outspoken nature and skin color will alienate rural Texans and unfortunately their opinions matter.

    23. Congratulations to Senator Elect Ken Paxton.

In all seriousness, I like Crockett, but this is a huge mistake. Would love for her to prove me wrong though.

She’s ambitious and worthy of that senate seat, but only Talarico has a genuine chance in the GE
