    1. I don’t buy it. Canada’s number of practicing physicians per capita **dropped** in 2023 and 2024. I strongly doubt that the number of nurse practitioners has ramped up enough to counter that trend, as well as the aging population with increasing medical needs.

My bet is that it’s a statistical sampling artifact, likely within the margin of error of their sample. Either that or they’re excluding temporary residents from the definition of „Canadians“.

Edit: I read the report. It’s not a random sample, it’s a convenience sample selected from members of a platform called „Vox Pop Labs“ and some additional people targeted by television ads, radio ads, and „partner networks“. Then they reweighted to reflect population demographics. I’m more convinced than ever that this is not a good survey.

I can believe it. Here in Toronto, at least, I routinely see clinics with doctors „accepting new patients“ now, so they’re literally advertising for them. That certainly wasn’t the case a few years ago.

Of course, your mileage may/will vary if you live in Bumblefuck, NB or wherever, since fewer doctors will want the lifestyle that comes with living and practicing in such a place.
