      A core part of the propaganda machine at home in Russia is wheeling out tankies from other countries to talk pro-Russian points, to give the impression that the „ordinary“ people of other European countries are actually in favour of Russia and Russian policies, its their Governments who are critical of Russia.

      It’s pretty standard stuff for authoritatian regimes. It means when they’re still fighting in Ukraine they can pretend that the „ordinary“ person wants them to be there, which makes it OK.
