I own a home in Tokyo living there parts of the year and sadly this is true.
The economy is in the shitter, the youth are rebelling against traditional values more than ever, and vandalism is on the rise.
It would have been inconceivable 10 years ago to see a shattered vending machine, but these days it’s often.
It’s a sad state of affairs and it has little to nothing to do with immigration yet that’s who they’re blaming.
For all that is great about Japan, there is a serious mental perversion that permeates the country.

Oh god, it’s so awful, instead of genocide and poverty they’re stealing insured cars and not taking their shoes off!

Can’t help but be amused at all the commenters taking jabs at “seemingly minor” things like thefts and burglaries as they compare Japan to western countries. The whole point of this is to highlight the very reasons why Japan is headed for a similar fate after generations of relative peace and stability.
Nobody seems to care about the “why” until after something happens. By that time we’re misplacing blame and talking about what could have been done instead of just doing it.

Inequality is rising everywhere. This is not a Japan issue.

And they are going to blame foreigners, like every decadent democracy does. Becoming the very ennemy they pledged to fight. I hope our century will see an exit to this ever repeating cycle.

why the fuck would you do that shit in Japan.
You basically can’t fuckin talk in jail there, when you’re walking outside your cell you have to keep your head down and look at the floor. No thanks

As much as I love visiting Japan and their culture, I’m surprised they don’t blame this on immigrants like most things and move on.

I wonder how many of these crimes are done by newcomers. Especially by the kurds
