People that were obese with health issues that were able to transform their lives are awesome. These celebrities that were maybe only 10 to 15 pounds overweight or not even overweight at all and then turned themselves into skeletons are very strange. My mom is on it and she said she would never risk the side effects for just a little bit of weight, it’s not a walk in the park. The risk of permanent gastroparesis is enough for me to say no.
This also occurred to me, with there being seemingly no off-ramp either, who knows what the long-term effects could be?
Thinking when they’re being used not in a medical context, anecdotally, I know a couple of people who have bought them off TikTok shop.
Last time I questioned this on Reddit I was accused of being fat phobic though.
I had a friend who would say this about the Covid vaccine after doing a bump off a toilet seat at a dive bar.
I think the answer is they are (hopefully) trusting their healthcare professional. As with all medicine.
Well, she’s someone who’s never dealt with weight problems. I have and I can see the need for the medication even though I don’t take it.
GLP-1 agonist drugs are a f***ing medical breakthrough. And yes, we know what “they” are putting in it. The mysterious “they” are putting in Semaglutide. It’s not a mystery or a conspiracy. And not even that new.
The level of misinformation that is allowed to just permeate is astounding.
People are now doing the same things with vaccines. “Nobody knows what **’THEY’** are putting in these vaccines!”

seeing quite a few Ozempic skeletons these days when I go out around NYC —
scary cosmetic face procedures I can handle — but this corpse look hits me primally, like 1. get away from this dying person before you catch their disease, or 2. get them some food asap they are dying of starvation . . .
Semiglutides will let me live longer than the extra hundred lbs I was carrying around.
The doctors shouldn’t be prescribing it to people who dont need it. A personal friend of mine was only maybe 40 lbs overweight and started Ozempic. 2 months or maybe 3 months in shes rushed into the E.R. for emergency surgery.
I think it should be fine for people that are obese and have struggled to lose weight but those who look ok and maybe a bit heavy, it’s dystopian vibes

I think its fair to have a problem with the pro-eating disorder content that is on the rise, but its important to separate that issue from fear mongering a medication that has a lot of benefits. Kate isnt a doctor and doctors *do* know what is in these meds.
No medication is 100% safe. It’s just that the side effects are worth it when your alternative is more severe. She’s not talking about those instances, she’s talking about people who are abusing it because society rewards thinness.

It’s like everything in life, abuse is going to happen but that doesn’t mean it’s not safe or effective for people using it correctly. I was on Ozempic, got under 200lbs from nearly 300lbs. Honestly I don’t know how anyone can abuse it though, the poops alone were absolute hell.
