The Kremlin has heaped praise on Donald Trump’s latest national security strategy, calling it an encouraging change of policy that largely aligns with Russian thinking.
The remarks follow the publication of a White House document on Friday that criticises the EU and says Europe is at risk of “civilisational erasure”, while making clear the US is keen to establish better relations with Russia.
“The adjustments that we see correspond in many ways to our vision,” the Kremlin spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, said on Sunday. He welcomed signals that the Trump administration was “in favour of dialogue and building good relations”. He warned, however, that the supposed US “deep state” could try to sabotage Trump’s vision.
It came as the White House’s efforts to push through a peace deal in Ukraine enter a key phase. US officials claim they are in the final stage of reaching an agreement, but there is little sign that either Ukraine or Russia is willing to sign the framework deal drawn up by Trump’s negotiating team.

Russia, the country that watches Europe with bitter envy, its clean cities, its free people, its quiet prosperity, and calls it decadence because wanting what you cannot have is unbearable. The country that measures itself against America and loses by every metric that matters: wealth, innovation, influence, life expectancy… So it clings to the one thing it knows , violence, and calls it strength. A nation that cannot build a phone, a car, or a future, but sends waves of its own sons into meat grinders for a few hundred meters of mud, then counts the bodies and calls it victory. A country whose people queue for sugar while oligarchs dock yachts in Monaco, whose villages have no plumbing while Moscow builds palaces, whose mothers will never know where their boys are buried, all so that old men in the Kremlin can pretend they still matter. Russia, the country that chose to be feared because it knew it would never be admired.
I would never have thought that Russia would win the cold war after all, all these years after the iron curtain went down. They dictate USA politics. Kind of amazing, actually, but it scares me to hell at the same time.
