      You can find places in northwestern Indiana where it changes from native forest to native tall grass prairie and the change in soil color from brown to black is very stark

      No wonder all the Ukrainians settled in that part of Canada back in the day. Felt like home.

    6. Which really begs the question: how did Argentina fuck up so much? How are they so far behind in agricultural output?

      They have some of the best soil in the world and it’s on a temperate floodplain, amd well connected to the sea. You can barely ask for better conditions.

      They could be an agricultural juggernaut, but they rank 9th in the world… Behind Japan.

      Something is off with the South America map. Why are the Andes green in Colombia but not in any other Andean country?
