      Serbia must be very rich country to build and maintain such rich churches. I hope they at least pay taxes.

      This looks gorgeous, the light and gold really pop. If you ever go again, try a wider shot including more of the ceiling, Belgrade churches usually have insane frescoes up there.

      I hope they at least shelter homeless people and give food as well as help with medical bills to poor families, as Jesus asked and gave as condition for salvation.

      Some estimates suggest that around 75–76 million euros have been allocated so far from the state budget for the construction of the Temple of Saint Sava. This is money from all citizens, being spent on a religious building in what is, according to the Constitution, a secular state. But because the project is religious in nature, the government uses a populist narrative to mask potential kickbacks and embezzlement.

      Most people in Serbia are willing to play dumb about this because of their own hypocrisy, and even the minority who dare to speak up are met with a barrage of threats and insults, being labeled “traitors” for opposing the construction of the temple. Meanwhile, information keeps emerging that the Serbian Orthodox Church, which, as a religious institution, is exempt from paying taxes, has been developing luxury real estate across Belgrade. And as for the car fleets and the „modesty“ of the clergy of this organization, it’s better not even to start talking about it.

      NGL, I thought this was going to be humblebrag picture of a mostly empty church. Not that I have anything against people choosing to go to church.
