Pakistan has made Army Chief Asim Munir the country’s first Chief of Defence Forces, putting all three military branches and control of the nuclear arsenal under him. His term was actually supposed to end soon, but this move extends his power instead of reducing it. He now oversees the body that manages Pakistan’s nuclear weapons and has been given strong legal protections that limit civilian and judicial oversight. The decision concentrates unprecedented authority in one military leader, raising concerns about the future of Pakistan’s democracy and regional nuclear stability.

I can’t even complain anymore. We are getting whatever we deserve by continuing to send billions in military aid to this failed state. Heaven forbid we spend those billions on our roads or on our healthcare… no. Instead we send it to fund Pakistan’s military. Braindead.

This sounds extremely dangerous. A military man who alone can launch around 170 nuclear weapons? Without consulting any government officials? He is a Field Marshal intent on winning a battle by any and all means. He is not a politician.

this isn’t any different than considering a reality where ayatollah ali khamenei controls the iranian nuclear button.

come to think of it, this is probably worse, considering it has been proven time and again that pakistan sponsors islamist terrorism.

    5. This move is terrible but it’s because it’s anti democratic not because of the nukes.

In Pakistan, Army Chiefs are the defacto heads of governments but share some power with democratically elected officials. But they have 3 years terms with position rotating between the 3 military branches.

These branches are business, political instituatiosn that are rivals with each other and check each other’s power but not corruption

This move is part of him creating a new position for himself that allows him to consolidate control over all the branches, so giving him control over the nukes

It’s about signaling that he plans to keep his position for a long time and that he isn’t going to allow other military officers to try to check him.
