I agree with Bong. There are still plenty of movies being released for the theaters. People can still go to see those. Theaters can survive and still make a potential comeback, with or without WB. Those who say that cinemas are dead are just overreacting. I hate the WB/Netflix deal just as much as the next guy, but I also know that it’s not the end of the Hollywood world when there is still more content to be seen.

WB is in a 6mo window of not releasing any films at all. Granted it had a great first two quarters. There is still a lot of money to be made at the box office, and either the existing studios will pick up the slack (hey David if you have $80b to spare you can spend some of that at the studio you already own) or a new player will step up or in. Capitalism will not leave billions on the table.

I saw Predator Badlands and 30 high school kids snuck in through the back and talked the whole time. I got hassled by concessions, and I was the only one in the theater with a bought ticket. If studios cared they’d invest in the venues. I have no desire to go back.

I went to see FNAF 2 in the theater yesterday. I hate going to the theater. It’s torture

    7. I have no doubts that Movie theatres will endure – they provide an experience that simply cannot be replicated at home for the vast majority of people and can’t be replicated perfectly at all until you’re getting into centi-millionaire / billionaire level of wealth due to space constraints and cost of commercial equipment

Despite what many owners or HT sub members say even 6 figure dedicated room home theatre set-ups don’t come close to IMAX or Dolby Theatre or Big Screen Premium format theatres in terms of overall experience because scale matters a lot – though I will admit they can have truly stunning audio

I say this as someone who’s spent the cost of a used car on their own home media set-up and experienced some much, much more expensive HT set-ups / rooms in person – if I have the choice I’m watching in a good commercial screen every time

I mean sure cinemas will crawl forward, but netflix has absolutely murdered the way movies are produced. The quality in movies being written has slumped insanely and feels like the fast fashion approach or h&m and zara, looks decent at first but ultimately sucks and poorly put together.

I could not care any less if every single movie theater ceases to exist tomorrow. I would much rather watch a movie in the comfort of my own home.
