Ein „echtes“ Interesse an Souveränität unter jungen Quebecern || Unter jungen Quebecern besteht ein sehr reales Interesse am Souveränismus

I wonder what the support is outside of Quebec to have Quebec separate. Like I know it sounds stupid but I’ve spoken with a fair number of people who would love to see Quebec separate who don’t live in Quebec. I think it would be a fun stat to see.

Interesting that they support sovereignty but also only if it’s progressively driven – green and socially conscious, not discriminatory or reactionary. The PQ does not seem interested in squaring that circle, from what I have read/seen.

    3. At this point, young people are just interested in anything *different* than what we have today.

If you sell them a vision of a better future for them – such as sovereigntism – they’ll likely buy it. Regardless of whether it will actually impact them positively nor not.

    4. What an unnecessary shit show this would create. Quebec would be much too broke to pursue the progressive agenda these young sovereignists would like to see.

That’s great to see. The younger generation will hopefully understand that Canada and Quebec are fundamentally incompatible. One is built on a thin, procedural identity. The other is built on a thick cultural and linguistic foundation. You can’t ask a people to dilute itself forever in a federation that doesn’t share its priorities.

    6. Quebec separation – military moved to another province, any Federal programs gone, any financial aid provided by the Feds gone, RCMP gone just to name a few things. The last time they went down this path, the Indigenous community told that how much it would cost to keep hydro projects on Indigenous land as they had no interest in leaving Canada. Same will apply to Alberta.

      >This alternative is most attractive to those people who are discontented with their situation, but possess some kind of economic security. Since they are not on the verge of misery, they — as well as young people not yet concerned with such matters — may more easily risk a lower standard of living. In addition, they have more to gain from a separate Quebec, for, in fact, this group will provide the new ruling class.

I remember being younger and thinking it’s all looking up and would be great in the future.

I’d be very interested in knowing if they’d be into the movement if it meant a dimmer future, but one they would control. Or is it just … Idealism or bust? Is the idea just „things would be great if the entirety of Canada wasn’t holding us back.“
