    1. > New York is the only state that allows avunculate marriage (uncle/aunt-niece/nephew marriage). Rhode Island also allows avunculate marriage, but only for a Jewish uncle and niece.

      Weird and then WTF?

    2. So… does that mean if they married in a state that allows, but moved to a state that is criminal charges, they can’t declare their marriage or will they get arrested stepping foot in the states? Hard to understand how different state law works in the US tbh

    3. Imagine going to a judge and making the case for marrying your cousin. Thats love.

    4. What is the difference between „allowed with exceptions”, “allowed with conditions” and “banned with exceptions”. Because those sound effectively the same.

What if I marry my cousin in a state where it’s legal and then move to a state where it’s a crime?

i think if u’re legalising same sex marriage, u should legalise cousin marriage too. It’s the decision of two adults.

Someone posted one of these a while back, maybe in a different sub.

If I remember correctly, only 2 states have absolutely no official incest laws.

Some states recognize the marriage as illegal even if it took place in a legal state

I believe in Utah the law specifically is both must be over a certain age and both unable to have kids. It’s more for being able to provide insurance or caregiver situations than incest.

I like how Alabama is stereotypically (not denying this) made fun of for incest and marrying their brothers and sisters, etc and then there’s California lol

    10. Allowed with exceptions vs allowed with conditions. Could you explain that difference? Because they seem pretty similar.

Is there a reason why two different shades of orange were used here for „Statute Bans Marriage“ and „Banned with exceptions“ instead of just making one of them Yellow or something? Was this made using the pallette of a Tropicana bottle or something?

    12. This is a bit out of date. Connecticut made first cousin marriage illegal on October 1 of this year.
