I wouldn’t be surprised if a good portion of this is due to a combination of the limited degrees of internal trade liberalization that have already occurred on top of some of the labor & investment leaving the U.S that’s entered Canada. Obviously, we’re not out of the woods yet in regards to our productivity issues, but it’s a good sign & hopefully if we continue to use the political turmoil caused by this trade war to address unresolved issues like internal trade barriers, we likely look forward to much higher longer term productivity gains in the future.

If you read the article the upshot is:
Actually upon revision, the last three years are a bit better than we thought they were. So it’s not a crisis, but it’s “ok-not great”. We’re a B- economy but we’re not flunking. It’s not really about recent news other than to say results came in better than expected following tariffs.
Maybe it also means that if we end up revising these numbers up a year from now, then we’ll be doing pretty good. But this is a charitable spin by me that does not appear in the article.
