they also have ghost cities that were built and now no one uses them. real estate had always had a boom and bust cycle. the fact that we are applying that to data centers which are more expensive to build ( you need to support it with power etc.) means the bust will be extra big.

If you have seen chinese „tofu dreg building“ there is no wonder how they can build something in few weeks rather than in years. I just prefer my buildings aren’t build with glue, duct tape and stale rice cakes.

China does build stuff fast, but speaking as a person who once lived for a year in an apartment building constructed in NE China in about 6 months, you don’t want that housing your servers. Before the end of the first year we were scraping mold off our walls with phone cards. Water seeped in through concrete walls.
Also most of the time in building data centers is in utility grid permitting and supply constraints in required components.
This is ridiculous bullshit served up as if it’s valuable insight. A hospital and a datacenter are extremely different beasts – not comparable at all. Additionally, having lived for many years in Mainland China, many of these “quick-turn” buildings are of subpar quality, even by Chinese building standards and practices. If his claim is meant to communicate that the US has too much red tape, then clearly he has never been on the wrong side of the local Party Representative in China, which can happen for absolutely ANY arbitrary reason.
Permitting, quality control, and inspections that keep the building intact take time. Buildings in China fall down regularly.

A hospital is literally any place with beds and doctors with medial equipment on wheels.
You can turn anything into a hospital in hours. The degree of quality of the facility is a factor of some ergonomics and ease of sanitization. Add redundant power or a generator for natural disasters and you’re already better than most of the world’s hospitals.
A data center requires insane amounts of power and cooling alone, vast amounts of water, species floors that can handle the weight.
Dude has no common sense, just got lucky smarter people found a use for this product and investors throw money at it. He’s like Zuckerberg. There’s no next thing for him because he’s not that smart. Just a right place, right time guy.
Mark Cuban is also a right place, right time guy, but he’s practical and knows it, which he turned into an asset. That doesn’t have to be a negative, most just have too much ego to use it right.
But will China’s new hospital have an issue with the oxygen supply in a year and blow up? Or maybe they can’t get people to move within a25 mile radius of it and it never gets used and goes into disrepair?
