This is terrible damage control. She had months to say something and this is the best she and her PR team could come up with?
She wasn’t silent. She basically said “when there’s an issue I care about, you’ll know”. She doubled down on the divisiveness.
So it seems like any time you’re accused of being a white supremacist, you should always speak up that you’re not…immediately…not do interviews and smirk and laugh like it’s cute.
She did an entire interview not too long ago where she refused to say all this and she’s saying this now?

I doubt it’s due to any change of heart on her part. I suspect her team had really honed in on the fact that her increasing unpopularity with the broader audience, and the lack of financial support by the consumer group she seems to be targeting not going to see her movies, means that she’s losing future income potential.
So they and she are both now trying to reverse course. Basically it’s all to try and save her career.
