Fuck the Taxi drivers.
Taxi drivers find it appropriate to hold the country hostage for the decisions of private companies and self employed individuals
Unclear what their goals are?
Open up the market like every other market.
Stop using the app? If customers prefer the app then maybe the drivers are the problem.
They live in their own echo chambers… Pricks
So there won’t be any taxis driving badly holding up bus lanes next week?
Angry chariot drivers protesting at Henry Ford. The industry has changed lads. For the better. Get over it, adapt, or disappear.
I know it’s not possible (public transport and such) but wouldn’t it be great if public refrained themselves for the whole December from using any taxis?
Just a little smack on the wrist…
The regulation of taxi drivers keeps the public safer than unregulated drivers. The regulation of any industry ensures a particular standard is maintained. Uber would seek to erode those safety standards by allowing unregulated drivers operate in Ireland. The government shouldn’t allow that to happen where Uber drivers aren’t complying with the same standards as regulated drivers.
When I was walking home last week when they were disrupting , a lot of the drivers were completely reckless: accelerating and decelerating randomly and violently on the road or deciding suddenly with no warning to stop in the middle of the street during rush hour traffic. Naturally, this exacerbated the road rage of some other users which lead to a few rash overtakes and even a few near misses.
Whether you support or oppose the taxi drivers , that sort of carry-on is completely unacceptable. I hope if anyone does that next time they’re brought up on dangerous driving.
Arrest the cunts if they block roads, and tow their cars.
Taxi drivers, the most aggressive drivers on the road, running red lights, blocking yellow boxes, aggressively overtaking and generally always causing chaos. I have no sympathy
Let us ride share!
I use taxis about 3-4 times a week, and ever since those protests I’ve been using Uber fixed fares exclusively.
On top of a cheaper price on average, it also works as a filter to weed out the usual pricks and racist wankers, almost guaranteeing that you’d get a nice quiet drive!
These pricks need to be told to fuck off. I hope the Gardaí get involved to stop this.
Wait till they hear about Waymo… 😳
Don’t you need permission to protest at this scale safely?
If they cause traffic to back up, they are also causing blockages for emergency services?
I’m even more convinced to exclusively use Uber from now on
If they don’t like it, then don’t use it. It’s quite simple.
They seem to want the benefits of getting jobs booked through Uber, yet want all the conditions and payment of those jobs on their own terms.
You can bet most of these bellends are still accepting jobs on Uber.
Why should I care? They have no issues charging €70-90 for an airport run from Dublin. Go Uber, do it.
Besides what stops them boycotting the app?
I’ve specifically downloaded Uber because of this.
Is there a realistic possibility the govt will give in to them?
wondering if it’s worth some of us contacting our TDs to say we support fixed pricing to reduce the risk of the taxi lobby getting their way?
Ireland is definitely the one country in the world where Uber will first introduce cheap fares to drive out the competition and then jack up the prices to be higher than what the original companies charged. Yep, that is definitely what will happen.
Have some sense, people. You don’t have to like the Irish taxi system to see that Uber are an evil pox on humanity.
Fair play to the taxi drivers, Uber is undercutting the industry and forcing taxi drivers to take lower pay when cost of living is going through the roof. Imagine being forced to charge 30 euro for a ride from Dublin airport to the city because that’s what Uber does with fixed pricing when the metered fare with traffic is usually 50 euro that’s a huge drop about 40% cut.
All they’re doing is advertising the Uber App. I never used it, but will probably look into it now as it sounds like a good deal.
I’ve actually deleted Freenow and downloaded Uber because of how annoying their little protest was the other day. My company allow us to expense taxis quite a bit and I know a good few others who’ve done the same this week.
The death of the taxi industry is just the free market at work. Don’t charge out the arse for a five minute car ride, and maybe you’d have more business?
Pillocks.
Taxi drivers brought Uber to Ireland
They worked for Uber
They have advertised Uber
They have told passangers to use Uber
Now they are blocking everyone else because Uber is not working out for them
No sympathy and nobody should have for them.
Thanks for advertising the fixed fare on Uber lads! Will be using that going forward
Can we just not legislate for actual Uber ride sharing and solve the cost and availability problem?
Thinking about making a big sign saying “try Ubers fixed fares! It’s cheaper!“ and standing at taxi ranks.
Taxi drivers that intentionally disrupt traffic like this should have their licenses suspended. If they have an issue with Uber then don’t fucking use Uber, it isn’t that hard.
This has shown in even plainer view the size of the chips on taxi drivers shoulders.
The consumer is finally getting a fair deal and these boyos are bleating about it. Dont use it fairly simple
Taxi drivers have to be one of the most deluded and entitled members of society. It’s a very low skill job, but they expect the financial reward of high skill labour. And they’ve had this attitude for as long as I can remember.
Part of what feeds this attitude is how good they had it for years. They don’t see that as good luck, they see it as proper order.
This is probably the least sympathetic strike / protest that I’ve seen in the state.
In saying all that, it’s still work and they deserve to get paid. But I don’t see why they should earn, or feel entitled to earn, more than most other low skill workers.
A taxi driver once scammed me by cancelling a ride and I got charged €7 for the privilege on Freenow. When I contacted Freenow they didn’t respond.
I deleted my Freenow account after using that app for years.
Fuck the greedy pricks. Uber all the way.
Bellends
let them honk.
We don’t give a fuck. customers don’t want to put up with their shite service and bullying tactics.
They’re mad because their norm of taking advantage of passengers is coming to an end.
I am really unsure about this protest honestly, especially as it has to do with fares.
While leaving my workplace on Tuesday (I work on a university campus, this is important), I was nearly ran into by a taxi driver when turning left onto a main road. He indicated that he was going to be turning left onto the street I had just left but seemingly changed his mind at the last minute and went straight, nearly hitting me. He then pulled up beside me berating me, telling me that he has my information and to be careful next time. I got a fright, and frankly should have told him I also had his information as my car has a dash cam. But I left it alone.
It was only when I was on another main road that I saw him turn into another entrance to campus. Curious, I went this way as well. He let the people out very near the entrance where he nearly hit me. I hope this makes sense. I immediately parked and downloaded all of the dash cam footage in case he actually did report me.
My thinking is that he was going to originally turn into campus through the entrance where I was leaving, but thought he could get more money by going around so he changed his mind. I’ve seen taxi drivers do this before, to the point I have asked ‘why are you going this way’; I never got an answer. Uber introducing these fixed changes may be trying to prevent this, but this is just a guess.
They’ve been running their driving into yellow boxes and refusing to let anyone merge protest for at least 30 years now
I like to know how much something will cost before buying it. I will use uber, but I wont use a metered taxi – so they can choose if they want my money or not, but they wont get it through a unknown metered fare
bunch of morons stopping people getting to work….the very people who give them work ….they make well enuugh money would they ever fuck off
Ex cabbie here, I support the drivers.
