The index looks at leading cities from around the world and ranks them on criteria including tourism, sustainability, economic performance and health and safety.

    2. Lost-Display1 on

More like: top places to visit where the locals will hate you because there is literally so much tourism it is becoming impossible to sustain a normal, working class lifestyle.

    3. Yeah right, I call this bullshit. Either it is rigged and biased, or the index uses a standard/criteria that is so utterly detached from actual on-the-ground human experience that it has no reference value whatsoever.

There is a reason „Paris Syndrome“ has become a thing. A decaying city swarmed with pickpockets, scammers, and other ills can’t be „attractive“ in every sense of the word.

I love that there’s no one in the world like Paris. It’s okay. It’s either this shithole where nobody speaks English, and it’s taken over by immigrants, or the most attractive city in the world.

    5. Dude, Paris is rad and all, but have y’all ever tried late-night street food in Berlin?

I love lists made combining in arbitrary ways an arbitrary list of arbitrary indicators

Beautiful buildings and scenary, but no offence, Paris stinks like piss. Literal piss.

the top was not for attractiveness but for „the most miserable city in Europe“. in the world is probably NYC.

    9. Both Paris and Tokyo deserve to be in top 3 with lots of things to see and amazing culture.

    10. Sorry but not having Vienna, Budapest or Praque in the top 10 just shows this is a total Mainstream list of places an American would choose If they are going to visit europe

It’s a nice city in the center, but the arrondissements around it such as where the Gare Du Nord station is, are absoluyte cesspools.

Terrible experience to walk around there.

This list is more like „all the places that attract crowds of American tourists“

I would suggest an alternative, north to south European city tour: Copenhagen, Dresden, Prague, Vienna, Ljubljana.

Combination of best city marketing and herd mentality. That should be the title of the list.

Most attractive is most visitors, not quality and beauty of a city.

It is all subjective in the end but those top 10 lists of cities and countries are complete bullshit.

By example, in Europa the cities Paris and Amsterdam are notorious for their unsafety. You even get scammed by a legal taxi company and tourist traps are everywhere.

Its logic when more than half of the people are stupid.

    15. Rome is such a dump around the peripheries. Trash everywhere. Paris seemed cleaner when I went.

    16. Most overrated city in France and honestly gives a bad impression of the country . Sud De France is so much relaxing and has more history . And if you had to do northern France , Strasbourg is more beautiful especially during the winter.

France is my favorite country but I utterly hate every damn layover I have in Paris . Including when I visit former French colonies like Morroco . I even had a layover in Paris for my flight to Barcelona from Rabat with Air France which is such an obnoxious thing to do for a direct flight .

We Americans owe France our thanks for helping us design Washington DC. But I’m glad we borrowed nothing else . I would rather deal with our incompetent and illiterate TSA than deal with CDG.

    17. CyberOvitron on

Yeah, whatever this ranking is based on, it’s pure crap. Paris is not even the most attractive city in France.

I seriously dont understand this. Paris is one of the most unpleasant cities i have ever visited, and i have been there too many times.

When you go away from the „center part“ of the city far enough then it is very pleasant and locals there are friendly and nice, invite you to the same big table to eat in restaurant and even tho dont speak english very good they do their best to include you. But most of the paris is an unpleasant, rude and unwelcoming overpriced turisti attraction and i do undestand that someone who lives there would be annoyed by the tourists

    19. Paris is kind of a dump. Tons of litter everywhere. I was just there this summer.

Disclaimer for this thread: all cities are shit holes to a certain degree but some are prettier shit holes than others

Went once in my late teens and my overall impression was that it was beautiful yes, but also ostentatious when you take into account the sheer level of exploitation and misery their colonialism created. It also seems like the local economy depends on tourism but they absolutely detest tourists. Even with a local guide, waiters would often skip taking our order and help other groups (French locals) that sat down after we did. Whenever I mentioned this to my French friends they all lamented that Parisians were that way. I decided to vote with my money and not visit again. And from what I gather, a great deal of Parisians are probably satisfied with that outcome.

    22. Beyllionaire on

People on the internet love hating on Paris: „it’s dirty, it’s crowded, Parisians aren’t nice, it’s overrated…“ yet more and more people come every year, how come?

      And they’re not just first-timers.

    23. Maybe but not my choice.

The problem is Parisiens – many are unpleasant and rude. My wife speaks pretty good French but in Paris, most Parisiens ignore her whereas in the rest of France, there is no problem.

Although, many French in the rest of France also consider Parisiens different and unpleasant.

    24. Madrid is not in Spain’s top 10.
Salamanca, San Sebastián, Sevilla, Valencia Toledo, Segovia, Oviedo, Cádiz, Málaga, Santander, Bilbao, Zaragoza, Santiago…
