I was initially slightly disappointed in the BBC for not actually including the name of the chemical, which I assumed would be at least somewhat familiar. It turns out it is quite an obscure compound, even for those who have read more than a couple histories of WWI recently. So actually this title is totally appropriate, which is, of course, expected from the BBC.

It’s old school tear gas, French invented it. Not great, by modern standards, worse than modern CS gas, but not really designed to be deadly. Theyre just cheaping out.
90% of the time when it’s either protesters or Ukraine or something and they just vaguely call out chemical weapons it’s Tear Gas. When it’s mustard gas or sarin they’ll use the name I assure you.

Georgia the country, not the state

Wait until you find out what Texas used to spray on Mexicans coming to the US for work. Let’s just say it was a chemical compound or two off from what Hitler used in the gas chambers.
