    >Customs Department officials found the items in the man’s luggage on 1 December during routine checks of passengers passing through the green “nothing to declare” channel, according to an announcement. The passenger had arrived from Switzerland.

    >The man was fined €3,901 for failing to declare the goods. Customs collected €19,012.84 in applicable duties and taxes.

Probably for resale then. If he was wearing them, it would probably not have been an issue. Certainly not if he had tossed the packaging, but that would tank the resale value.

I wonder if it was actually a Laurent Ferrier watch. That’s fairly niche & not the usual suspect for a quick flip. Either way, a €20,000 tax bill is borderline theft.

  3. How do you even get this? Like customs, especially in Cyprus just drinking latte and laughing with each other while people walk past them

I don’t live in Cyprus but have sent my family small things from time to time. They always get hit with import taxes.

I understand import taxes on bulk items for re-sale but never understood import taxes on items for personal consumption.

Should of posted the packaging and wore the watch, or come from a connected flight via EU country
