    1. [Here’s Rustad’s statement on Twitter](https://x.com/JohnRustad4BC/status/1996337722462728456):

      > I have not resigned, I have not been removed, and I am not going anywhere. A political party’s board can throw around whatever creative terminology they like, ‚professional incapacitation‘? Give me a break

      > Let me be clear : That’s not a constitutional mechanism

He seems to be referring to the Constitution of the BC Conservative Party, [which states](https://assets.nationbuilder.com/bcconservative/pages/2633/attachments/original/1739952134/CPBC_2025_Final_Constitutional_Amendments_Proposal.pdf?1739952134):

      > 11.02 The Leader can only be removed from office by resignation, death, incapacitation, or the
leadership review vote resulting in less than fifty percent (50%) support of the Party Members in
good standing who vote in a universal secret paper ballot.

He may have an argument that the Board of Directors does not have the power to declare him incapacitated, and only a formal leadership review can boot him from office. But that’s all mostly besides the point. Clearly he’s not going to be an effective leader if most of his caucus wants him gone.

This is hilarious – who cares if it means a campaign through the holidays. Eby should call an immediate snap election to take advantage of the fact that the BCCP don’t know if they have a leader or not and have two conflicting claims on who the leader is. Just send it!

    3. What’s his end game here? Even if he is vindicated somehow, how exactly does he expect to lead a party that has openly tried to oust him?

    4. Once this saga is over, the BC Conservatives first order of business will be amending their constitution to allow a mechanism to remove a leader. The fact that they don’t have that is a pretty massive blindspot, but nobody could predict a leader would try to cling on like this.
