Firs time?
That was extremely carless of Best Buy to not even put it in a box to hide what it is. They basically asked for it to be stolen from u/GnarDead.
These stories always seem like BS to me, honestly.
Can’t they just go to store instead?
Sounds like a Best Buy
Best Buy is well known to sell returns as brand new, so occasional fraud doesn’t surprise me. I don’t trust them anymore, at least for online orders.
I worked at Nordstrom in college and someone returned a designer perfume box with rocks in it. They only knew once they opened it to use as a tester. It was sealed and everything but that was the funniest thing i’d ever seen there.
This article has nothing to do with this sub dude
That fucking poor seal. I hate animal abuse. 🙁

I didn’t know ASRock made nvidia cards.
I haven’t played PC games in a long time, but I am seriously considering swapping from console to PC next gen. Is that how much cards go for now!? I remember bitching about spending $300 on one.
This is why I ordered my current graphics card for store pickup. I could just inspect it right then and there and return immediately if something like this happened. Definitely not risking hundreds of dollars to end up with rocks in a box.
How much vram does the rock have?
I remember this thread from yesterday
Must be a slow news day….
So…they had an average BestBuy experience?
That was fast. The original event that this article is based on was just posted on r/pcmasterrace earlier today.
Charlie Brown at Halloween trying to buy an rtx 5080: I got a rock
People are telling this guy he should have filmed the unboxing, but if it showed up with a broken seal, Best Buy is still going to say he opened it and filled it with rocks himself, and then took a video of the “unboxing” afterward.
lol that’s crazy a guys Reddit post from yesterday got turned in to a story 😂 tomshardware doing that person a solid with the bad press.
Bought from amazon.de a new 990 Pro 4TB and what came a couple days ago inside was an old SK hynix 512 GB m2 drive. Got a full refund, but yeah always best to film the unpacking.
