Crazy that the AI money is so good that they just ditch the entire consumer market like that.

Oh not good for consumer prices

Our tech overlords have blessed us with wonderful productivity increases for the same amount of pay and the same working hours, and now their latest gift is reduced competition in the consumer PC hardware market.
Everybody say „thank you, AI“.

I hope that AI bubble pops hard enough to make them regret their decision

damn. two things.
1. is all memory gonna be soldered on in the future? or is replaceable ram gonna become like a big-ticket, boutique kind of thing? i’m imagining a future where ram is made by like 2 companies, everything sells over MSRP, prices basically never come down, etc.
and 2. everyone blames ai, and i get why. but i’m starting to have covid flashbacks – more people at home/online, pressure on supply, price gouging on tech. obviously any recession (whether or not we’re in one) would be radically different from covid, but it does look kinda familiar

So are they just going to be selling their chips to 3rd parties who make their own sticks? Or are they fully committing to servers only?

Now can we please take AI regulation more seriously?

Always a great idea to cut off a market from yourself that you’ve been known for.
