This shouldn’t be surprising to anyone – of course corporations are going to do whatever minimizes costs and maximizes revenues the most, people and society be damned, because we’ve set up a system that practically requires them to act like sociopaths.
What we need is for government to stop listening to them.

The solution here is to unionize. If TH employees are union, then their wages, hours, benefits and working conditions are set by the collective agreement. Tim Hortons loses its access to a pool of cheap, easily exploited labour. This isn’t an immigration problem. It’s a labour problem. It always has been.

There needs to be a law that citizens get first dibs on jobs, just like First Nations in government and education jobs. A percentage of employees should have to be over half citizens.
