      The Polish Communist Party has been banned.

      The Constitutional Tribunal has ruled that the golas and activities of the Polish Communist Party are unconstitutional. President Karol Nawrocki demanded the party’s delegalization.

      The Polish Communist Party (KPP) existed since 2002 and was a niche formation espousing Marxist-Leninist ideology. Over the years, individual members ran for the Sejm (lower house of parliament), as part of the Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) and later the Left party (Lewica). However, none of them made it to parliament.

      For years, there have been calls to ban the party, accusing it of publicly promoting a totalitarian system. In 2020, then-Minister of Justice and Prosecutor General Zbigniew Ziobro filed a motion with the Constitutional Tribunal. However, no hearing has been held since then.

      On November 6, 2025, President Karol Nawrocki submitted a similar motion to the Constitutional Tribunal. The Tribunal merged the president’s and Ziobro’s motions into one. On December 3, at a hearing chaired by President Bogdan Święczkowski, it was decided that the „aims and activities“ of the Communist Party of Poland were inconsistent with the Polish Constitution.

      – There is no place in the legal order of the Republic of Poland for a party that glorifies criminals and communist regimes responsible for the deaths of millions of human beings, including our compatriots, Polish citizens – said Krystyna Pawłowicz in the justification.

      The Political Parties Act clearly states that if the Constitutional Tribunal rules that the „aims or activities of a political party are incompatible with the constitution,“ the court must issue an order removing the formation from the register of political parties.

      I’m not sure I’m 100% for banning political parties, but if I were, I’d be 100% in favor of banning this band of Stalin-felating muppets.

      Nothing burger. I’m sure all of their supporters, which would be like 0.000005% of Polish population will protest now.

      I’m pretty sure this is a violation of the ECHR though…
      The German Constitutional Court did not ban a neonazi party a few years ago because of their irrelevance.
      Would be interesting what the Strasbourg Court has to say about this ruling…

      Fun fact: One on the judges in this case was member of Polish United Workers‘ Party, the real communist party during communism 🙂

      Polish Constitutional Tribunal is itself unconstitutional because it was appointed in violation of the Constitution so…💁‍♂️

      i actually liked it when there was a communist party and thats not because I like the party itself but because this essentially allowed a true multiparty system to exist with even your unfavorable team getting their 0.001% share and are as well allowed to exist while nobody really cares about them. I think this judging was simply a show and unnecessary

      So which party in Poland will advocate for common ownership of the means of production, distribution, and exchange that allocates products in society based on need ?
      Is there a left that aims for this perceived idealism in Poland?

      We should do this with far-right parties all across the globe. Otherwise billionaires will pour money into them to repeat the US strategy of eroding the government completely.
