To ease the disappointment that once again the rapture failed to happen.

    2. Soft-ish Christian propaganda. Happened during Bush also. Just trying to soften up the nones. This none is having none of it.

During a climate like this people seek to escape their aills through faith, rather than you know do anything to address the reality around them.

„Cultural Christianity“ is just a force of right wing populism. It has nothing to do with scripture. Red voters just want to pretend they’re the good guys.

They are making a David animated movie, I wish Jews were making it instead.

It’s a book full of stories that nobody owns the rights too. It’s that simple

    6. Right? My local theater is a smallish chain, not one of the big ones. They just recently started showing some of the „special event“ films like the Twilight rereleases, Toy Story anniversary, Back to the Future, etc. which are cool.

Most of the time it’s just Angel Studios schlock though.

It isn’t just movies. There’s a reason Taylor Swift hasn’t joined the other musicians telling Trump and DHS to fuck off for not paying them.

The money players actually think the culture is shifting back and I hate to break it to them but it isn’t. We just have an asshole in the White House.

Because Hollywood knows the culture has shifted, and they are testing to make money..they do not care.

I know the obvious answer is „MAGA Christianity has taken over“, but maybe there is more to this. If society is starting to view religion through different lenses, I think its worth analyzing with more depth than just saying „The bad guys control media now“.

The late 2000s to early 2020s were heavily dominated by a specific era of „liberal“ mindset. The kind that coincided with the era of „internet debate“. Which coincided with the rise of the „enlightened atheist“ archetype. A lot of culture shifted towards a specific flavor of secular belief. One that (for lack of a better word) relished in the meaningless of things on a large scale.

But with the current societal conditions, finding things to be meaningless is probably an uncomfortable idea to people. Now, I’m not saying people are getting more religious or conservative, but I do think they are *entertaining* religious ideas more. Or at least trying to appreciate their influence on society.

And yes, I am saying appreciate. I know „religion bad“ is the conventionally accepted Reddit opinion, but the world is a varied place with a multitude of perspectives. Its worth considering why some people hold onto faith. And I say this as someone who isn’t particularly religious myself.

Because MAGA is culturally as ascendant as they’re ever going to be, and there is a track record of  „If you can get church-going Christians to care, they will pay to support the art that matters to them.“

Everyone here quick to blame “MAGA”, but like all things it’s cyclical. Bible movies have been popular since the dawn of movies. Everyone is so quick to forget Ben Hur, 10 Commandments, Greatest Story Ever Told, etc.
