They have started getting messages (Sms) from govt numbers to install it. I think Apple has already rejected their request but not sure about other android phones.

Firstly it’s not mandatory. Second it has the same number of permissions if not lesser than your average amazon app
And they soon will want Digital ID pre-installed within the device with no option to remove it.
