    1. In the memo
“There is no change for employees who are currently remote.”
And he only mentions people with assigned desks needing to retun to the office 5 days a week?
      What does this mean?

    2. Fuck does a messaging app need people in one building for?

The whole point is IM. Do that shit from home.

    3. > „I want most of your time focused on building great products, not preparing for meetings,“ Mosseri wrote.

As the managers probably bog down the devs with daily standups and board grooming meetings nonstop…

One or both of these things must be true:
      – They’re preparing for layoffs
      – He has an unhealthy relationship with work, and fundamentally doesn’t understand why other people aren’t making their jobs their whole lives

    5. layoffs by attrition. If a company is doing that they are struggling.

You hear that investors, WFH is a sign of financial strength.

    6. We want you to spend your time „focusing“ and not in meetings.

We want you all dragged back into a workplace of constant interruptions and inane chatter so we can feel like we have a „team“ to micromanage.

The memo looks fine imo: remote people stay remote; people with desks need to come in or lose their desks (with some exceptions); fewer meetings, more demos.

    8. >“I believe that we are more creative and collaborative when we are together in-person,“ Mosseri wrote. „I felt this pre-COVID and I feel it any time I go to our New York office where the in-person culture is strong.“

Translation: „I enjoy being in the office so everyone else must as well, and I’m going to drag the rest of you in with me for my preferred working environment even if you don’t.“

Why are companies so against remote working? Genuinely all you need to do is check in on your workers to see if they’re doing their tasks.

    10. A company that runs an app that is already done. They are probably trying to halve their work-force without doing it themselves.

    11. “*Our product increasingly sucks, I certainly can’t possibly be to blame, it must be those pesky WFH workers, so RTO it is!*”… 🤦🏻‍♂️

    12. It’s so funny how these executives had to play nice during the past labor shortage, and now when they feel they got the upper hand again, they return to their true selves: Incompetent, greedy morons who got promoted to their positions because they are louder and nastier than anyone else. They couldn’t care less about their staff, and about how much time and money their employees have to waste to feed their pathetic egos and their lust for control. The only thing these people care about is how long their yacht is.

This will be really funny when times will inevitably change again, because demographics cannot be stopped. Then they will figure out that talented people don’t want to work for crap companies having RTO mandates.

These idiots are completely out of touch. Also, this is just the opening round for massive layoffs, which are needed due to CEO complete incompetence.

For what it’s worth, as someone who works at Meta: this is gross, but it only applies to people with assigned desks, which is like half or less of SWEs who work hybrid. Most folks just use drop-in desks, and you can switch from a fixed desk to drop-in pretty easily.

    15. If you have to be in-person to be collaborative and innovative, you weren’t collaborative or innovative to begin with.

    16. Odd_Cover282 on

All these CEOs say the same thing. “Return to office for creative collaboration” and then half the team is off-shored. So then you are commuting to sit in an open office just to talk on teams in order to collaborate.

This is all a ploy to get employees to quit on their own so they don’t have to lay them off and pay severance. Classic move in the shitty corporation playbook.

As a Developer who’s been remote for the last 5 years, enjoy the brain drain bozo lol

    19. TIL Instagram has shitty management that feels the need to look over everyone’s shoulders. If you can’t remotely manage in 2025 you’re an insecure shit manager.
