      This just means they haven’t found a way to make ai sell more shark cards yet

      AI is the thing people who don’t know tech are preaching to lower costs and increase their bonuses. In reality, AI is just going to cause more problems in 5-10 years. It’s going to create a bunch of code that can’t be scaled and is a nightmare to maintain and troubleshoot.

      It can be a useful tool but using it to replace humans at this point is shortsighted.

      Cool story bro. In 5 years, you’ll be using AI like every other game studio. But go on and ride that anti-AI hype wave while it lasts.

      All of this falls apart if humans don’t adopt the tech. This is why you’ve seen Meta cram its lame chatbots into WhatsApp and Instagram. This is why Notepad and Paint now have useless Copilot buttons on Windows. This is why Google Gemini wants to „help you“ read and reply to your emails. They’re trying to change our habits, because all of the projections rely on people becoming truly dependent on the technology. Whether or not it’s actually a good thing for society isn’t considered to be a factor.

      It’s because they’ve all read the articles bought and paid for in business and investment media claiming that AI is a panacea. The amount of false marketing of the AI capabilities in the AI space is astounding.

      I was curious when I saw the BSE reference so I skimmed the article. He’s referring to the problem of AI generated content polluting the training set of AI. Which definitely is a problem for AI companies.

      But there’s another more unsettling thing that LLMs and prion diseases have in common – there’s at least [one study](https://www.media.mit.edu/publications/your-brain-on-chatgpt/) that has found some troubling things about what LLM usage does to your brain. Because it short-circuits the whole “actually using your brain” part of the tasks you’re outsourcing to an LLM, this results in worse performance across a range of tasks compared to a control group. It damages your ability to form neural pathways. It’s like a mild neurodegenerative disease, or a like a kind of self-imposed learning disability.

      Are we even gonna have game devs and coders anymore? Is it just gonna be the average person interacting with thousands of prompts to make their own game then the ai ends up overheating at the closest data center from trying to do way too much

      Bitcoin fucked with everyone in tech’s heads into thinking that if you don’t get in on the ground floor for every tech development you will miss out on a major money source or be left behind.

      Look, the point is always the same: right now it’s a useful tool for some stuff, but it’s hardly the panacea it’s publicized to be. I mean, I’d be more inclined to believe it will have such wondrous applications if it actually worked right.

      Just today I spent 2 hours – 2 whole hours! – trying to make it format an html doc with a mermaid diagram using Antigravity, and it never got it right until I just wrote the remaining parts myself.

      Earlier it „allucinated“ my SQL tables not having certain constraints, before generating a SQL script that was absolutely useless.

      It’s kinda useful…but not „world ending“ useful.
