This is one of those things where at best is pretty much at worst because not sure what goes above that in this scenario.

At best, a war crime… at worst, a PR nightmare for anyone who thought a defense secretary could be a little more… subtle.

We will need a Nuremburg Trials scenario when all is said and done with this crew.

I’ve been seeing it proliferate now at a more rapid rate.

Have you ever noticed that when there is criticism of one of the elected officials in this administration, they word their response in a way that spreads the criticism to others to make it appear as if they are attacking the whole of the armed forces, and not just the guy in charge?

I see they are going after Hegseth and their allegations are specifically to him giving bad orders (illegal, etc.) Yet his response is that we are just disparaging the courageous heroes, blah blah blah.

Why doesn’t someone step up and clarify that our beef isn’t with the heroic men and women that serve our country through military means, but specifically with the one individual.

Its fucking wild how they can attempt to deflect any and all blame.

    6. They ALL need to be tried for treason, war crimes, and sedition. And then punished accordingly when found guilty- which there is PLENTY of evidence of.

This may be your last chance to get on the right side of history, Republicans. Turn back now before it’s too late.

    8. >“If this happened as described in the Post report, it was, at best, a war crime under federal law,” conservative commentator Andrew C. McCarthy wrote in the right-wing magazine [National Review](https://archive.ph/o/ajG4r/https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/we-intended-the-strike-to-be-lethal-is-not-a-defense/). “I say ‘at best’ because, as regular readers know, I believe the attacks on these suspected drug boats — without congressional authorization, under circumstances in which the boat operators pose no military threat to the United States, and given that narcotics trafficking is defined in federal law as a crime rather than as terrorist activity, much less an act of war — are lawless and therefore that the killings are not legitimate under the law or armed conflict.”

We live in a time when the US president is selling pardons to any criminal who can afford one… what makes you think, any of these guys will get put in prison?

    10. Ain’t nothing going to happen. There will be the usual noise, hand waving and finger pointing. That will be followed by “fake news”, “it’s a hoax”, “this was invented by democrats to discredit us/me” and other bs reasons. In the end, as with everything else that has preceded it, nothing will happen.

wow, I wonder who saw theses illegal orders might be coming?

      Maybe Mark Kelly?

Who is pushing a court marshal on Mark Kelly? Maybe the guy giving the illegal orders?

You just can’t make this shit up.

America had been an utter shit show for 10 years now. It started with Trump, moved to the pandemic, and now it’s a double whammy of Trump and team going off the rails combined with the threats of AI crashing the economy.

I feel so sorry for kids these days. I have a 17 and a 19 year old and I don’t now how they cope.

      >Top Conservative Voice Slams Pentagon Pete’s ‘Kill Everyone’ Orders | „At best, a war crime.“ | Andrew C. McCarthy noted that war crimes carry a penalty of “life imprisonment, or death” in a piece excoriating Pete Hegseth’s reported order.

      And psychopathic and sadistic.

    15. whyonearth11 on

Pardons all the way around and nothing will happen to any of them. Don’t waste your time thinking anything will happen.

    16. Hegseth needs to be punished to the fullest extent of the law with all the consequences that apply.

    17. He said at best a war crime because wars are messy and people make mistakes. This is worse. There is no, “I was confused and made the wrong call” defense for what they are doing.

When the indignation and spin is peeled away from Hegseth’s x post the only thing left is a conspiracy to do straight up premeditated murders. The only thing for the courts to do is establish who is in on it (the conspiracy to murder is ongoing.

If a presidential candidate ran on a single issue of admitting the US to the ICC, you would have my vote. Consequences be damned.

    19. I’ve become so jaded to these miserable monsters escaping anything appearing real consequences that I have no hope they will face justice at this point. I’d love to be wrong, I just don’t think I am.

    20. Someoneoverthere42 on

And he’ll be cleared of everything in a month because that’s just the way the world works now.

    21. cataclysm49 on

Even if war crimes are pardoned by the president, they can still be tried and convicted in the Hague. Perhaps the next administration finally acknowledges and agrees to the terms and jurisdiction of the ICC…

    22. If Trump pardons these people can the next admin just send these people to say Venezuela for prosecution?

    23. invest_orca_1 on

Flashback to Hegseth saying “no more rules of engagement”

No, Pete. This is one reason why there are rules of engagement; because “killing everyone” means noncombatants and civilians (war crimes)

    24. new_wellness_center on

Would be hilarious if Hegseth went from “no more beardos” to prison in under a year, though obviously that’s never gonna happen.

    25. greenman5252 on

Remember when we used to hang fascists, like at Nuremberg? Pepperidge Farms remembers.

    26. FallingAndFlying_au on

Trump has been issuing pardons left right and centre. If this is found to be a war crime and Hegseth doesn’t get on his bad side before the end of Trump’s term, I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a pardon with Hegseth’s name on it.

    27. Far-Advantage-2770 on

I agree it is a war crime but if you are you going to prosecute it you are going to have to lock up every Secretary of Defence for the past 25 years, which I also agree with.

    28. Trump will just pardon him, like how he pardoned those Marines convicted of the war crimes in Iraq.
