The Irish media need to be held to be account as well, saying that there is a ‚ceasefire‘ when it hasn’t been observed by Israel. Israel are still killing people in Gaza. It’s propaganda to say that there is a ceasefire

The government don’t want it changed.
The locals don’t want it changed.
Who is pushing to have it changed?

Fuck off. Herzog is a genocidal pig who signs bombs that were dropped on kids. Don’t forget our history of oppression and genocide taoiseach.

I had not even heard of this park until a couple days ago.
I don’t spend much time on the south side of Dublin

It’s not a fucking war so using ceasefire in the media is a disgusting pro-Israel term. It’s a genocide and an extermination. If the Brits did 1/100th of the things Israel is doing up north we would have inquests for 1000 years

The guy herzog died in 1997. Its not like new information has come out about his past or anything. Why was his name ok for naming in the 90s and all till today ?

I don’t think this is a great idea.
Hertzog has no ties to current events. It comes across as anti semetic as opposed to anti Isreali.
If the park needs to be renamed. Rename it after his father who was cheif rabbi of Ireland and also Sinn Feins lawyer.

Martin is on the fucking take for Israel i swear to god. His finances need investigated. Its not normal.

Good. The idea was beyond petty and bordering on pathetic.

What an insane proposal.

Renaming the park is wrong. Chaim Herzog is long dead and has nothing to do with the current conflict.

I can’t open this, can anyone explain why it’s an issue to keep it, aside from the fact Herzog was an Israeli

The moral thing to do is to cut any ties to this genocidal state. But then again, since when did we have a moral government.

Looks like Rachel Moiselle online screeching has gotten attention of her international friends again to cause an uproar. Never seen a wee girl who’s supposedly proud to be Irish love trying to paint us in a bad light every time she gets for a country she’s not even from.
From what I saw of Herzog it looks like was a supremacist Zionist who trained his whole life to be able to murder and establish his ethno state.
He’s no Irish man of ours.

It is only a small group of highly motivated people who want a name change. Most people either don’t want a change or don’t care.

It was considered right to name the park after him at the time it was named. Chaim Herzog died before the present regime came about. I think it would be wrong to rename the park based on Israel’s current government’s actions.
We can support the right of Israel to exist. We can support our Jewish/Irish brethren while at the same time protesting the genocide in Palestine.

The anti semites are panicking today. Their thinly veiled „we dont hate Jews, we hate the israeli government “ mask has well and truly slipped with this.

There is a point where you have to ask yourself if you are going too far getting to the level of silliness that was ‚Freedom Fries‘. It’s on the level of ‚Why bother‘ except as some form of performance.
Then again I’m forced to wonder if anyone in this thread is actually human and it’s not just all the internet bots arguing with each other. It’s one of those issues that’s very easy to immediately make a visceral and emotive statement on. It’s also one of those issues that’s very easy to take a ‚Us or them‘ stance on. This makes it very easy for other forces to use it as a lever on the discourse of the sub. It’s very easy to be angry about and take an overtly angry position.
In the middle where sanity is are real people who’re bewildered by it all. To the point where I amn’t sure if any of these people here are actually people anymore.
Ultimately, as an action, denaming the park seems bizarrely petty and the sort of thing fronted by someone desperate to demonstrate their status as a ‚right-thinker‘ to their peers, garner attention for themselves and otherwise find another mountain to shout from. Where it’s more important to be seen to hold an opinion vehemently than to reflect on why. Or even know who Chaim Herzog was.
It’s a level of pettiness that makes it very easy for those who would be more pro-Isreal to criticise us as a bunch of ranting morons.
More than that – in order to talk to people you need to find some ways to maintain links to them that can be used as a source of common discourse when a different Isreali government is elected and Netanyahu gets the corruption shitcan.
Otherwise, I deliberately made this a long post rather than a 2-line pithy remark because, otherwise, how else could i prove that a real person could be this dumb.
