WTF is wrong with the Hong Kong government? This group is not even against the government and just want justice and a safer building environment. None of the demands is unreasonable.

We know all too well that tofu dreg projects are everywhere in China. In this case, the legal material cost $90 and can only be used once. The renovation company used substandard, illegal material that cost $50, which is reusable. The substandard material is highly flammable while the legal material is fire resistant. Residents complained to the Labour Department about the illegal materials, but they were told that there is no fire risk and therefore there is no requirement to use fire resistant materials. So, it looks like the government is partly at fault, not just the company and its greedy executives.

China knew that any independent commission or report will blame the government. They knew that people will be mad after the death of 300+ people. They knew that despite cracking down on 2019 protests the hatred towards CCP is still strong on many people. And the deaths of 300+ can be another spark.
