    1. One could think that the air conditioning demands should be driven by tropical environments but is actually driven by financial conditions of the country.

Only 10% in Europe? I’m at the Balkans and I think the percentage over here is much, much higher than 10%. I expected more northern countries would have a lower percentage but I didn’t expect such a low one.

In Korea it’s rarely central air though. It’s almost always a mini-split type device or a window unit (not like the ones in North America but similar), or if the space is larger or more money could be spent, a larger standing cooling unit that’s usually in the corner of a main room. Sometimes the cooling unit will be built into the ceiling, but it’s still not actually central air. It gets super humid there in the summer too so it can sometimes be a wild ride.

China is much higher given that air con is cheap and in many cases requires little effort to install.

The numbers come from a 2018 report. Although not such a long time ago Europe had some very hot summers since then. Sales of AC is on the rise – I don’t have numbers to prove – so I guess the percentage will be higher now and will rise even more.

    6. Surprised it’s only 91% in Japan. Pretty much unlivable in summer without AC

    7. Perfect data from India and China?

All but one stat relates to a country. The other stat relates to Europe, a continent.

These numbers look like guesses at best.

    8. By 2024, the data of China were 91% in urban, 65% in rural area, much higher than 2018 in this map.

Each family had 1.46 AC in average, 1.85 in urban, 1.2 in rural area.
