Here’s something I do not really understand about the NMBS system. If you do not have a ticket, you can buy one on the train, but it will cost you €9 more than a ticket you bought in advance. However, during peak traffic hours (mornings and evenings) there are almost never any train conductors walking the trains to check tickets. The trains are so full that it would be hard to do anyway.

So what’s stopping anyone from not ever paying during peak traffic, if they only run a pretty small risk of getting caught, and only risking a fine of €9 if they do get caught?

enkel proberen buitenzetten is mogelijk mits hulp van de spoorwegpolitie, maar vermoed dat de mogelijke geld boetes op niets zullen uitdraaien indien hij weigert te betalen . Het parket zal niet eens de moeite doen om deze (kleine) zaken voor te laten komen.
