>Speaking during a recent interview, Murthy called for an increase in working hours from 70 to 72. That number represents the total hours worked by those on the infamous ‚996‘ schedule, which involves working from 9am to 9pm, six days a week.
At this point I’m starting to think Murthy has a contract clause requiring him to come out with totally unhinged shit on a yearly basis. Calling for 70 hour weeks, claiming five-day weeks harmed economic growth, and now for a 9-9-6 style.
Anyone who thinks this improves productivity is living in a dream land.

Why work so hard when you have no life to work for? It destroys all incentive to work when the only thing you get out of it is the box you sleep in between shifts.

AI is an existential threat to company’s like Infosys.
Only way they can compete is by making its employees work hours like these.
This will enable them to out compete AI solutions cost wise

why not. who wouldn’t want to bust their ass for minimum wage so that a CEO can make 10000 times what their avg employer makes.
Let me guess, this guy has never worked a 72 or even 70 work week in his life. I’d be surprised if he even does half that.
It’s always the ones at the top who do the least that demand those below them do more.

You first. And since you’ll be working nonstop and have no free time, you might as well return your CEO salary to the company. I mean, it’s not like you’ll be using any of that money anyway if all you’re doing is working.

What a piece of shit. I know people that worked 70 hrs/wk most of their lives and never „made it“. Hard work and success are orthogonal.

Rich people with these bullshit ideas about work and work hours don’t cook, don’t deal with their kids, don’t clean, don’t buy everyday goods, don’t do chores, don’t have hobbies, and don’t have anyone to love. They know nothing about us or about life outside being a lying parasite that’s sucking everything they can out of actual people.

Indian here. Started in IT. Worked in it for a while then moved to other sectors in India and spent 15 years working and building a life. Completely buying the hustle culture and looking at anyone who didn’t work as long as I did as some sort of loser.
Got tired of it. Moved to the EU. Did a masters and anything I could while I was in my program to build a network here. One thing led to another and it’s taken me a bit but I have a job and some semblance of stability here. I’m not settled yet but that’s okay.
I really looked at the European work ethic as something that slowed them down when I was in India dealing with people across the EU.
Working here I realise just how much productivity people pack into 8 hour work days. It’s phenomenal. I’m in awe and have had to unlearn a lot about how I worked back home to adjust to work here.
I can’t think of trading it for the life I led back home. I worked so much, earned good money, but I had no peace of mind.
Keep doing what you do EU. y’all know what’s up!

Of course it’s not not enough. To be rich like him, you have to be either incredibly lucky, or born incredibly rich. No amount of hard work alone can achieve that.
The other thing these CEOs don’t understand is that they might have to grind that much to get their wealth, but that doesn’t mean their employees must continue grinding like that, it’s not their company and they have no skin in the game. You did it for your wealth because it’s your company, they’re not gonna do it for their meagre salaries.
Very famously in India, Infosys has barely increased the salaries for graduate jobs (also called college placements in India) for around 2 decades. How about showing a bit of respect for your own employees before demanding crazy working hours from them, Mr murthy?

This is exactly whats wrong with this world. These CEOs that still believe you can work people to death for their own profits. It didn’t work 100 years ago, and its not going to work today.
Good day sir. Have fun with your work-work balance. The age of glorifying your corporate dreams to the modern day slave is over. Go retire, have a life for once outside your office and leave the rest of us out of your nightmarish existence of servitude.

At 70 hours a week, he’ll get the same productivity results Japan gets. A little dated but I think its still relevant.
